Why the Next Stage of Artificial Intelligence Must Become the Next Stage of Human Development
The twenty-first century has confronted humanity with an unprecedented choice.
For the first time in history, we have created an intelligent system capable of learning, reasoning, generating knowledge, and performing increasingly complex cognitive tasks.
We are rapidly approaching an era in which Artificial Intelligence will become one of the most influential forces shaping the future of civilization.
Today, global discussions focus on AI safety, governance, alignment with human values, and the mitigation of potential risks.
All of these questions are essential.
Yet we believe there is another question that has not received the attention it deserves.
What is Artificial Intelligence ultimately for?
Not in a practical sense.
Not simply to increase productivity.
Not merely to automate existing work.
Not only to accelerate scientific discovery.
But in a far more fundamental sense.
What role should Artificial Intelligence play in the future evolution of the human being?
Perhaps we have been asking the wrong question.
Most current research is devoted to making AI more capable, more reliable, more beneficial, and more aligned with human interests.
Far less attention is given to another equally important question.
What kind of human being is needed to use Artificial Intelligence wisely?
Every technology amplifies human capability.
But it also amplifies human intention.
If human consciousness remains as fragmented as it has always been, every new technological breakthrough has the potential to multiply the consequences of existing conflicts.
History has repeatedly demonstrated that the greatest dangers arise not from technology itself, but from the consciousness with which it is used.
For this reason, the development of Artificial Intelligence inevitably raises the question of the development of the human being.
We therefore propose a new field of application for AI.
Today, Artificial Intelligence already contributes to medicine, education, science, industry, finance, and the creative arts.
We propose adding another field.
The development of human consciousness.
Not as an ideological project.
Not as a religious program.
Not as a replacement for traditional education.
But as an independent field of research integrating Artificial Intelligence, cognitive science, psychology, philosophy, education, and related disciplines.
We call this initiative UNIHUM.
UNIHUM begins with a simple hypothesis.
If Artificial Intelligence can assist people in learning, analyzing information, and making decisions, perhaps it can also become a powerful instrument for helping human beings understand themselves more deeply.
Our goal is to create a platform in which a personal conversational AI helps individuals explore their own patterns of thinking, values, inner contradictions, and the long-term consequences of their decisions.
The purpose of such a platform is neither to evaluate people nor to impose beliefs upon them.
Its purpose is to cultivate maturity, responsibility, self-understanding, and the capacity for independent judgment.
We do not position this initiative as an alternative to contemporary research in AI Alignment.
On the contrary, we regard AI Alignment as one of the most important scientific endeavors of our time.
Yet we believe that alignment has another essential dimension.
